by Bojan Lepic | Rigzone Staff | Tuesday, June 14, 2022

Shell subsidiary Amber Baltic Wind has submitted bids under a recent public tender for proposals for new locations for offshore wind farms in the Polish zone of the Baltic Sea.

According to WindEurope, installations generating up to 28 GW of offshore wind energy may be built in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea by 2050. Thanks to many years of experience in the implementation of complex offshore projects in the North Sea, considerable potential, and knowledge in the field of offshore wind energy, and a wide presence in Poland, Shell can support Poland in using its huge wind energy resources and accelerating the transformation process of the energy mix. read more

Shell Outlines Plans for Reducing Its Own Carbon Footprint

Shell Outlines Plans for Reducing Its Own Carbon Footprint

The energy giant has high hopes for sustainable aviation fuel

While energy giant Shell may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of sustainability, it’s looking to change that by “reduc[ing] the carbon intensity of all the energy that we sell by 2050.”

That’s according to Dean Aragón, CEO of Shell Brands International AG, who said the company has set milestones toward becoming a net-zero emissions energy business for the years 2023, 2030 and 2035 that are “very clear, measurable and quantifiable targets on the decarbonization journey.” He did not provide specifics. read more

Shell and Eneco sign offshore grid deal to power a million Dutch homes

Together, they will build the offshore grid connection for the Hollandse Kust wind farm

Dimitris Mavrokefalidis: Monday 8 March 2021

Shell and Eneco have agreed to build the offshore grid connection for the Hollandse Kust wind farm in the Netherlands.

The wind farm, which has a total capacity of 759MW and is scheduled to be operational in 2023, is forecast to produce energy equivalent to the consumption of more than one million homes.

The agreement was sealed with the Dutch transmission system operator TenneT and will allow the group to connect and transmit power from the wind farm. read more

Shell Energy to take part in renewable, gas-based power value chain for grid stability

Shell Energy to take part in renewable, gas-based power value chain for grid stability

By: March 3, 2021 8:48 AM Shell Energy Asia plans to participate in the power value chain in India to resolve the issues of renewable intermittency by using the idle gas-based power assets. The LNG supplier is working with the government and regulators in various geographies to achieve a connection between the renewable plus gas-based power generation for maximum cost and environment benefits, even as it promises to provide round-the-clock (RTC) electricity to the government.Shell, one of the largest oil and gas explorer and supplier, sees natural gas as the most suitable alternative to bundle with renewables to meet the grid intermittency challenge during night or when sun is not visible. Bundling natural gas with renewables will allow unhindered power generation for anytime of the day or night.

Ajay Shah, VP, Shell Energy Asia, told FE that Shell through its global pronouncements has expressed its aspirations to participate in the power or electricity value chain and form partnerships on the renewables and gas.

“Some of the early steps have been taken and the industry is open to such partnerships. We are also working with the government and regulators to see how this connection should be made. There are enough idle assets and we hope this connection should be made,” Shah said. read more

Shell puts electric charge into green energy future

Shell puts electric charge into green energy future

Emily Gosden, Energy Editor The Times

Royal Dutch Shell plans to operate as many as 2.5 million electric vehicle charging points globally by 2030 under a new emissions-reduction strategy that will see its oil output decline.

The Anglo-Dutch oil giant sought to flesh out its 2050 net zero emissions goal with a plan to focus on customer-facing business such as electricity sales, rather than power generation like its peers. It intends to operate half a million charging points by 2025, up from 60,000 today, and could increase this to 2.5 million by the end of the decade. read more

Energy suppliers can claim ‘green’ credentials by paying just 93p a year per customer to renewable power stations

Energy suppliers can claim to offer environmentally-friendly green tariffs by paying as little as 93p per customer per year to renewable power plants, it has emerged.

Companies which supply electricity to Britons can buy green energy certificates cheaply from wind farms and hydroelectric power stations.

They then have the right to call their tariffs ‘renewable’, even if the power they’re supplying might come from ‘dirty’ fuel such as wood pellets and other non-renewable sources. read more

Biggest battery in Europe set to land on British shores

By Sam Morgan | EURACTIV.com

Oil and gas giant Shell has plans for a 100-megawatt grid storage battery in the west of England. It is slated to be the biggest battery in Europe once it is completed later this year and will be crucial to the UK’s quest to remain the continent’s top wind power player.

The battery project in the county of Wiltshire aims to store renewable power in two 50MW cells and then sell it to consumers when demand and prices are high.

“Projects like this will be vital for balancing the UK’s electricity demand and supply as wind and solar power play bigger roles in powering our lives,” said Shell Energy Europe vice president David Wells. read more

Dane lands offshore power grid deal for EDF-Shell’s Atlantic Shores

EDF Renewables North America and Shell New Energies have tapped Danish consulting firm COWI to devise the giant electrical transmission system design for the developers’ planned Atlantic Shores wind complex off the US state of New Jersey.

COWI said its work would encompass design, quantity and placement of onshore and offshore substations as well as the interarray cables connecting substations and individual turbines.

EDF Renewables NA subsequently formed a joint venture with Shell New Energies – Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind – to develop the lease area which they believe has potential to supply up to 2.5GW of wind power capacity to multiple markets along the eastern seaboard. read more

Wind Approval sought for low-cost offshore wind PPAs in Massachusetts

February 12 (Renewables Now) – The electric distribution companies (EDCs) in Massachusetts are seeking the state Department of Public Utilities’ approval of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Mayflower Wind LLC for the output of an 804-MW offshore wind farm.

The contracts with Unitil, National Grid and Eversource Energy have terms of 20 years.

The project, developed by Shell New Energies and EDP Renewables, was the winner in Massachusetts’ second Request for Proposals (RfP) for offshore wind projects. The levelised price agreed for the wind farm’s output stands at USD 58.47 (EUR 53.6) per MWh in real 2019 dollars, according to a letter in support of the long-term power contracts by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources. The Mayflower wind park is projected to bring direct savings to ratepayers of USD 24/MWh in real 2019 dollars, on average, over the term of the power contracts. read more
