March 29 (Reuters) – Ovo Energy is planning a takeover of Shell Plc’s (SHEL.L) UK gas and electricity business, a move that would allow the British retail energy supplier to reclaim the No. 2 spot in the British supply market, Sky News reported on Wednesday.

Ovo is expected to propose an indicative offer for Shell Energy Retail Ltd’s (SERL) UK operation, the report added, citing sources. Shell Energy Retail has about 1.4 million customers. read more

Shell names Tony Nunan as its first chief of staff

March 30 (Reuters) – Shell Plc (SHEL.L) said on Thursday Tony Nunan will undertake the newly created senior role of the chief of staff and corporate relations, while Cecile Wake would take over from Nunan as Chair of Shell Australia.

The chief of staff, the first in Shell’s 115-year-old history, is the biggest change made by Chief Executive Officer Wael Sawan to the top management since he took helm on Jan. 1, with a promise to boost the oil major’s performance.

28th March 2023, London – Energy giant Shell paid just £15 million in taxes and fees to the UK last year on their drilling, compared to over £6.3 billion to the Norwegian government over the same period, according to Global Witness analysis of Shell’s latest tax reporting, released today.

This means Shell paid around just 22p per UK citizen, compared to the £1,171 it paid for every citizen of Norway. This £15 million is much closer to the £9.7 million it awarded its CEO in 2022, than the considerably more it paid to most other countries in which it drills. read more

POTTER TWP. – Residents should expect continuous elevated flaring at Shell’s ethane cracker plant as crews perform maintenance and repairs at the facility.

Shell leadership announced a controlled shutdown of portions of the Beaver County petrochemicals complex Saturday for repairs and maintenance on one of the unit systems.

“This will require us to fully activate our elevated flare for a period of time,” company representatives posted on Facebook. “We apologize for any noise or visual disruption this may cause our friends and neighbors.” read more

Shell made net tax payments of $8 million for its UK North Sea operations last year — less than it paid its outgoing chief executive.

NEMBE, Nigeria — When Lambert Ogbari learned that the oil giant Shell was selling its local operations to a Nigerian firm, he said he felt hopeful his living conditions would finally improve. But he quickly noticed that maintenance on the oil wells surrounding his village had declined.

Then, one night, Ogbari woke up to a loud bang, followed by the smell of gas. Crude oil was shooting out of a well near his home with such force that people hundreds of yards away could hear the roar.

As the world wrestles with climate change, major oil companies are selling off polluting assets around the globe. Shell, which announced in 2021 that it is looking to exit Nigeria’s onshore market completely, has repeatedly said in annual reports over the past eight years that divestments in Nigeria and elsewhere have played an important role in decreasing the company’s greenhouse gas emissions. Shell’s withdrawal is part of an exodus by some of the world’s top energy companies from the Niger Delta, which had long made Nigeria the largest oil producer in Africa. read more

Avoid buying this broadband at all cost. Should be banned from comparison sites. I have had the broadband for 3 days, haven’t got it working yet. Rang up to cancel for free in my “14 day cooling off period” to be told this actually ended 2 days ago, the day the line was taken over by Shell. Currently trying to charge me £110 to cancel a service I’ve had for 3 days that hasn’t worked once. Only saving grace has been a couple of people on the phone who have been willing to try to find a way a round this. read more

After 33 years of service with Shell, Harry Brekelmans will step down from his role as Projects & Technology Director, a position he has held for almost nine years, effective 30 June 2023. Robin Mooldijk, currently Executive Vice President (EVP) Chemicals & Products, will be appointed Projects & Technology Director, effective 1 July 2023.

And following more than 33 years of service with Shell, Donny Ching will step down from his role as Legal Director, a position he has held for just over nine years, effective 30 June 2023. Absolutely appalling service. They took over my Post Office account, without my knowledge, and stopped taking any money – then they land me with a HUGE bill. Sorted that in November and I set up a Direct Debit with them expecting them to take monthly…NOPE I contacted them after 3 months to ask why they had not taken it to find they now expected me to pay another HUGE bill, in my reckoning it should have been less than £60, 3 months at £18.99 but they tell me I owed over £370!!! So I ask for an explanation…nope they took it out of my account the same day...I am still waiting for an explanation and will be looking for an alternative provider….steer clear read more

Shell have been reported to OFGEM and The Serious Fraud Office. The Maximum they can charge customers in my area for electric is 36p last october the put my bill upto in excess of 39p and in january to 41p + According to Citizens advice this is illegal. Check you bills and if they are overcharging you report to Citizens Advice and seriuous fraud office. The more who do the more chance there is of them bveing prosecuted and you getting compensation read more

If the first three months of operations at Shell’s petrochemical plant are any indication, the next 30 years are going to be stressful and hazardous for nearby Beaver Country residents.

The community is locked into a lasting and significant source of plastics production and dirty air pollution that will degrade the Commonwealth’s air quality and our environmental legacy for decades to come. Shell clearly isn’t interested in operating safely or responsibly ― so it’s up to regulators and citizens to force them to get emissions in check.

The Shell Polymers Monaca plant in Potter Township officially began operations in November of last year. Even before opening day, the plant was already posing a threat to the surrounding community. From the very beginning, Shell has not managed to keep its pollution to safe and legal levels. It has set a terrible precedent for decades to come, and there’s no reason to expect Shell will act differently ― unless it’s forced to do so. read more
