I would give zero stars if I could. The customer service is crap. I’ve had no broadband for 6 days. Told internal fault by 3 people over more than 3 hrs I was on phone. They booked engineer who didn’t turn up. Phoned them and told external fault and would update me in 2 hrs..of course not heard from them then when asked was told they dont work weekends so God knows if they’ll ever fix it. Opened complaint heard nothing. As soon as they fix it …if ever I will change provider. These are the worst. Time wasting useless liars that are completely incompetentread more
Worst company I’ve ever dealt with, they don’t communicate properly, their online systems aren’t managed properly you can’t access your accounts or even set up an account, the customer service team transfer to wrong department multiple times because they couldn’t be bothered to deal with the query. Rang 3 weeks ago to let them know we moved into a property and update all the details, all the meter readings were given and I rang back today and they have no recollection or any details of anything. Unprofessional uneducated staff throughout the company.read more
“Appalling!! Was with post office, brilliant but they sold out to Shell. Wish I had left then. Just moved home and as stuck on contract decided to stay with Shell, huge mistake!!!No Internet, no service at all. Complete shambles of a company. Avoid at all costs. Complaints are totally ignored. Rude staff on phone and emails ignored. Government should pull plug on them as Broadband provider.”

Appalling customer service, they cancelled my broadband by mistake and I had to call them to fix it, no communication, no apologies, nothing. Long wait times on the phone, incompetent staff to say the least, will never use their services again.

Awful experience, unreliable slow broadband. Speed was ok at the beginning but got progressively slower. I complained and the speed improved then got even slower than before to the point of being unusable. Couldn’t wait to leave. After six weeks of not being asked to return the router I binned it then two months after termination I was asked to return the router and it would cost £35 if i didn’t.read more
Absolutely appalling customer service. On the phone for 3 days and still no internet. Spoke with numerous agents many of whom hung up and finally decided to terminate my contract. The final agent from the retention team was actually verbally abusive ! No internet over Christmas! Disgusting service Please avoid Shell at all cost.
Horrible company, avoid never use any broadband, even worse customer service, moved house booked engineer and he never turn up to find out they never book one, so I cancelled broadband to find out they where still charging me final bill month after, please avoid this company !!! Avoid Shell Energy! They are an appallingly bad company. They took over as our energy supplier over a year ago and still haven’t refunded the money they owe us (i expect this is the case for many of their other customers). They couldn’t care less about their customers, rude and unhelpful customer services staff (when you eventually do get through)We’ve wasted hours and hours of our time chasing the money they owe us only to be fobbed off every time, absolutely terrible, avoid at all costs, there are plenty of other energy suppliers available, see all the other bad reviews online of Shell and you will see that this is not an isolated instance! Disgusting behaviour from a company that made £10 billion in profits in the last quarter alone but refuses to refund £300 that they owe. It’s incredible that companies like this are allowed to get away with it.read more
Appalling service in every respect, forget any help from customer service. I would highly recommend to stay away. I will never return to Shell.

£18.99 for guaranteed 10Mb broadband, actual broadband speed maxes out at 5Mb, is usually 2Mb, lots of deals for new customers, disinterested customer support aren’t interested in fixing their broken infrastructure or offering the same deals to existing customers, so I’m off to plusnet, slightly cheaper and guaranteed 19.7Mb…..read more

DO NOT GET THEIR BROADBAND!!
My mother-in-law, 84 yrs old, was switched to Shell Energy via the Post Office a couple of years ago, without consultation. She’s never received a paper bill, never set up an online account and had 1 initial letter which she forgot all about..
Having early memory loss issues & a service outrageously slow, she thought her laptop had broken.. @£32 per mth (!!)
We switched companies, providing notification & she’s literally received dozens of threatening emails since, demanding money for a router they didn’t provide, termination fees for a contract she never signed and attempts to access a final bill I already paid.. I’ve called many times, explained the circumstances-they said they would stop. This is harassment of an elderly woman, shame on you.read more

New contract for my 90 year old mother who has dementia and severe memory issues. Broadband was installed for the sole purpose of setting up internal monitoring in her flat so family members could ensure she was safe and well. Decided on a Shell package with home phone and broadband as listed on the MSE website back in August 22. This has honestly been my worst decision ever and would strongly advise anyone NOT to go with Shell, especially as their “customer service” is absolutely diabolical. Ironically my problem lies with the phone line as the broadband has(so far) been working satisfactorily. From the point of activation the phone line ceased to operate. Outgoing calls cut out after entering 3 digits, incoming calls didn’t ring on the handset. There then followed 3 months of infuriating and lengthy holds to Shell customer services plus a multitude of complaint emails with various agents suggesting frankly ridiculous solutions. All that was needed was to get an engineer out to the exchange/green cabinet and check the wiring. Two booked engineer visits went by with no one turning up. When I complained after the last no-show the agent decided to book a further appointment and classify my mother as a “vulnerable” customer. This engineer actually turned up, called me from the now working land line and advised that the wiring in the cabinet was not connected to my mother’s landline. This 5 minute fix took three months to happen. Case closed but no apology or credit for lack of landline. However, have now received bill for two engineer call outs at £60 each, one of which was a no-show. Don’t think we’ll be paying these as problem was outside the home. Shell, stay well clear.read more

Shell props up UK energy supply arm with £1.2bn as prices soar
Helen Cahill:
Shell has been forced to support its UK supply arm, which has more than a million customers, with £1.2 billion worth of financing amid the “unprecedented” rise in energy prices.
The FTSE 100 energy giant has extended capital and loans to its subsidiary Shell Energy to help bolster its finances after losses widened last year.
Shell’s UK Unit Got £1.2 Billion This Year to Weather Energy Crisis
William Mathis, Bloomberg News: 8 Dec 2022
(Bloomberg) — Shell Plc gave its British retail energy arm roughly £1.2 billion ($1.5 billion) of financial backing this year to survive wild swings in natural gas and power prices.
UK energy retailers have been under extreme stress for more than a year as a supply crunch drove wholesale prices to record highs. Dozens failed in 2021 as costs soared and regulations prevented them from raising tariffs. Those that survived incurred hefty expenses taking on the customers of collapsed rivals.read more
Shell injects $1.5 bln into UK retail power business to help it weather volatility
Reuters: Ron Bousso: Dec 08, 2022
LONDON — Shell has injected nearly $1.5 billion into its British energy retail business this year to help it weather huge volatility in power prices that caused the collapse of several rival UK power utilities, Shell Energy said in a filing on Thursday.
Britain’s power utilities have been rocked by huge fluctuations in energy prices since the end of 2021 due to a shortage in natural gas supplies, which was exacerbated after Russia sharply reduced supplies to Europe following its invasion of Ukraine in February.
Shell Energy’s operating loss rose to 102.4 million pounds in 2021 from 83.6 million pounds a year earlier, according to the company’s financial results, released on Thursday.
The loss was “principally driven by market conditions. In particular, the unprecedented rise in energy prices in the latter part of 2021 adversely impacted financial performance, including increased costs as a result of supplier failures in the market and the inability to pass on higher energy costs,” according to the results filing.read more

Awful. Paying the most premium package for their internet. Which we I use for work and have been cut-off from. Trying to get through them on the phone is impossible over an hour and still can’t get through. This is ridiculous, shell taken all our money but not putting any of it back into customer service – whereas the sales team is really easy to get hold of…
