I am among the 465,000 Post Office home phone and broadband users who have been collectively sold to Shell Energy, and are to become the firm’s customers.
As a climate activist, I most definitely do not want to become a customer of Shell Energy, something that I did not, and would never have, agreed to.
The Post Office has told me I will have to pay an £88 penalty if I wish to cancel my contract and leave.read more

Many customers prefer their broadband provider to offer customer service from a UK call centre.
Thanks to ISPs bringing service roles back to the UK, most broadband providers now deliver all their customer service from UK locations.
Shell Energy Broadband
Shell Energy Broadband say they offer UK-based customer service via UK call centres and live chat providers, something they have reiterated in responses to customers on review sites.
BRITAIN’S biggest energy firms are set for a £1billion windfall as they hike prices for hard-pressed loyal customers from Thursday.
Around ten million families on standard tariffs — many already with money struggles as a result of Covid — face bill rises of almost £100.
It comes after energy regulator Ofgem raised the price cap on standard variable tariffs.
They are the contracts that most people will be on if they have not switched supplier in the past year or so.
The change will increase the charges paid by a typical family on a standard variable tariff by £96, bringing the average bill up to £1,138 per year.read more

Extracts from a current Shell Energy customer review posted on Trustpilot: “Don’t use this company – Shell Energy Broadband. Their customer service is appalling. If you have any problems or issues they won’t help you. As soon as you’ve signed their contract, that’s it, they are not interested. They got my order wrong and I ended up with the lowest broadband speed and not the ‘plus’ service. The standard broadband is awful”

Shell Energy Broadband Scraps Controversial Switching Exit Fee
Saturday, March 27th, 2021
Energy provider and UK ISP Shell Energy has announced that they will scrap the £15 “cease fee” that was being charged to home broadband customers who wanted to switch away to a different provider, including those who were now outside their minimum contract term.
Technically speaking Shell, or any ISP for that matter, can charge a post-contract cease fee and the one mentioned above does in fact appear in their T&C’s. In shells’ case it’s apparently a hang over from when they gobbled First Utility’s broadband base some years back, and sometimes wholesale providers can also charge ISPs such a fee too (i.e. the provider is allowed to recover these from consumers).read more

Shell Energy to axe £15 broadband switching ‘cease fee’
Shell Energy is to scrap a controversial £15 ‘cease fee’ it charges customers who switch away from the firm or cancel their contract, MoneySavingExpert.com can reveal. It comes after we queried the fee with regulator Ofcom and it asked Shell Energy to explain the charge – though Shell insists it was already reviewing the fee as it prepares to take on 450,000 Post Office customers later this year.
Currently, Shell Energy charges the fee as standard to broadband customers who decide to leave it, and unusually this applies even if you’re outside your minimum contract term – though anyone who has taken out Shell Energy broadband via a blagged MSE deal is automatically entitled to have the fee waived. read more

Shell hunts for hydrogen opportunities in Australia in net zero push
Sonali Paul: Thu, 25 March 2021, 8:50 am
MELBOURNE (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell is scouring Australia for opportunities to develop its hydrogen business, so far focused on projects in Europe, in its drive to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Shell Australia Chair Tony Nunan said the company sees hydrogen and carbon capture and storage as essential to the company’s net zero ambitions, and Australia is well placed to be competitive in both of those technologies.
Australia, like its biggest coal and gas customers China, Japan and South Korea, has mapped out a hydrogen strategy, with plans to become an exporter by 2030, using its vast wind and solar resources to produce “green” hydrogen and natural gas and carbon capture for “blue” hydrogen.read more
