Trustpilot Review of Shell Energy: ‘Avoid this company at all costs!’

Some extracts from current customer comments posted on Trustpilot: “I should not have been required to have spent several hours on New Year’s Eve dealing with such an inept company. I feel sorry for all those customers who have received similar e-mails to mine, particularly the elderly and those experiencing economic uncertainty. Avoid this company at all costs!”

I had to cancel the broadband service…

I had to cancel the broadband service due to my late mother passing away. Upon cancelling it was fine. There was no mention of additional fees etc. After 1 month I received a final bill for early cancellation fee charges. This was due to stoppinf the contract before 12 months. I called Shell and waited for 45 minutes. Upon answering I explained the reason for cancelling. They didn’t care so clearly it’s all about the money. I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone. Awful.

They have been awful and threatening as…

They have been awful and threatening as part of their take-over of Greenstar energy. The estimate they want to enforce implies I used next to zero energy in the year after I shifted from them. Dont ever consider using them, Octopus have been so much better

Unnecessary Hassle

They decided to substantially increase their broadband charges mid contract, and were near impossible to contact to enquire what was going on. At the end of your broadband contract they insist on you returning by post the router and equipment to them. This ridiculous piece of additional hassle makes the marginal gains of choosing them totally not worth it. Generally speaking very disappointing.

ROBBING, worst customer service

According to them its totally normal for my usage to be 3x as much in the months I ain’t living there to the months I am. £83 and still rising for leaving a fridge and Internet on. Yet in Oct I worked from home, heating on everyday, oven on etc and its £53.00. Same as when I moved in… The month no one was there £90 yet when I buy all my white good etc and move in £35. Currently waiting to switch to another supplier… Cannot come sooner

On New Year’s Eve Shell Energy informed…

On New Year’s Eve Shell Energy informed me, by e-mail ,that they would be increasing my direct debit payments by over thirty per cent. My current payments started in October and are based on my previous year’s energy consumption. I am also on a fixed tariff; hence, there is no justification for any increase in my monthly payments. I telephoned the company, responded to several minutes of security questions, and was cut off after a thirty minute wait. I telephoned again and ,after a ten minute wait ,was offered a call-back option. An hour later I was telephoned and upon answering heard classical music for thirty seconds or so before ,again ,being cut off. I dialled 1471 and checked the number on the internet: it was listed as a Shell Energy call centre. I telephoned the company for a third time and subsequently received a call-back, the outcome of which was the cancellation of the proposed increase to my direct debit. I should not have been required to have spent several hours on New Year’s Eve dealing with such an inept company. I feel sorry for all those customers who have received similar e-mails to mine, particularly the elderly and those experiencing economic uncertainty. Avoid this company at all costs!

Can only rate Shell Energy 1 star for the following reasons.

1. Shell energy should give choice of billing periods & made clearer, ie:-
monthly – qaurterly ect.

2. Billing should also be automatic & instant when sending readings, waiting time to long.

3. Shell energy should send customers emails when bills are ready.as do when wanting meter readings.

The above is what I have been use to from previos suppliers.

Kind Regards, G. K
