Twelve million households could be hit by a loyalty penalty in 2021, overpaying by an average of £200 to their energy supplier, new research has revealed.
Those still on expensive standard variable tariffs will be paying a couple of hundred pounds more than those who have signed up to cheaper fixed-term rates, according to energy provider, Bulb.

Some extracts from current customer comments posted on Trustpilot: “The broadband service is a joke. Been with them on an 18 month contract, and every single day there has been an issue. Sometimes dropping out 50 times a day. They know they are terrible but as long as they remain unpunished, they will continue their fraudulent activities. Avoid at all costs.”

Shell Energy has posted an almost £32 million loss for 2019, pointing to falling customer numbers as competition in the sector remains strong.
In the company’s financial results for the year ended 31 December 2019, the company’s loss before tax sits at £31,538,000, a dramatic increase from £20,994,000 the year previously.
Operating loss also grew, hitting £26,765,000 in 2019 compared to £20,302,000 in 2018 driven principally by “adverse market conditions” the company noted. No dividends were paid in 2019 compared to £5,000,000 in 2018.read more

ISP Shell Energy UK Warns of Broadband and Phone Price Rises
Friday, December 11th, 2020 (4:17 pm)
Shell Energy has informed “all customers” who signed up before 2nd September 2020 that, from 11th January 2021, some of them will face a price hike on their home broadband and call services. The move is expected to hit 112,000 customers, although around 42,000 on copper cables will receive a free upgrade to “fibre“.
The move is somewhat awkward for a provider that has long promoted itself as offering “no end-of-contract price rises,” although this latest change appears to be more of a mid-contract increase, but that will do little to improve customer perceptions as many will not have been expecting this (credits to MSE for spotting the price change).read more

By Reuters Staff: DECEMBER 10, 2020
