Awful service. Can’t get hold of anyone. Have referred us to debt collectors twice for a bill that was from the previous tenants of the property, and have even contacted my parents who live elsewhere and have nothing to do with this?read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! The door to door sales agents will lie to you in order for you to initiate a switch of energy and earn their own commission. A sales advisor told me that my balance would be transferred over to my new supplier during the switch, which is why they required a credit check to be run, while my ongoing energy supply would be cheaper. This was absolutely not the case, my old supplier have debited over £700 from my bank account this morning and Shell energy are unable to offer any help to resolve this at all, I asked to reverse the switch and they have advised this will cost a further £100. I am appalled at the level of misrepresentation and service supplied by the company and I urge anyone considering to switch to avoid them at all costs! I don’t rate British Gas’ service at all but you would be far better off!read more

ALMOST 700,000 people have lost their jobs since the start of the pandemic, official figures reveal.
There are now 2.7million Brits claiming unemployment benefits — a leap of 120 per cent since March, when lockdown began.
The latest jobless total, announced yesterday by the Office for National Statistics, means the unemployment rate is at 4.1 per cent, up from 3.9 per cent previously.
And with five million workers still on furlough, experts are warning of more devastating losses when the scheme comes to an end next month.read more

BT broadband’s unlikely new rival offers faster speeds at a cheaper price
BT BROADBAND is facing a fresh challenge to its dominance and this time it comes from an incredibly unlikely rival offering better speeds (for less money).
BT continues its drive to bring faster speeds to more customers across the UK. The telecom firm has recently announced a major update, which is now offering some consumers the chance to download files at speeds of almost 1Gbps – that’s fast enough to whizz a feature-length Hollywood movie in full HD onto your TV in under a minute.read more

I’ve been having broadband issues for the past two months, numerous phone calls and emails yet the standard response is too many devices, which I’ve proven to not be the issue by providing tests over Ethernet with only one device connected. Anyway the majority of devices are smart bulbs, smart plugs and a thermostat, leaving only a laptop and TV.
The pings spike up to 8000ms and nothing will load not even the Google homepage. Also the guaranteed speed range is 8-14Mbps yet I regularly get as low as 0.5Mbps, again they don’t see that to be an issue. Their advisors don’t know what pings are so their answer is that I need fibre when in reality they just need to fix my broadband.read more

ISP Shell Energy UK Launch Ultrafast G.fast Broadband Packages
Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020 (10:56 am)
Energy provider and UK ISP Shell Energy has become the latest provider to introduce a new range of “ultrafast fibre” broadband packages, although instead of going with FTTP they seem to initially be launching using only Openreach’s hybrid fibre G.fast network that is no longer being deployed at scale.
As usual the new packages all include a wireless router, 18-month minimum contract term, free activation, unlimited usage, copper line rental with standard call rates (PAYG) and an engineer installation.read more

Unethical (persuaded 85 year old to switch whilst shopping in Asda). Misleading (direct debit fell far short of usage & so accumulated a huge debt). Dishonest (agreed her repayment proposal & then additionally took an extra £100 by direct debit). Greedy (want to charge an exit fee). Dishonourable (blocked her move to another energy provider). Unreasonable length of time to get through to customer service. Agents pleasant & sympathetic but they have no authority.
I switched to shell because they told me the standing charges were a lot less than I was initially paying and trusted I was being told the truth as it was face to face in my own gome. I never had anything to show me the rates and couldn’t access my online account for months and when I finally could I realised I was paying more than double! When I contacted them they told me as it was a face to face sign up there was nothing they could do as it was my word against their’s! So far in 8 months it cost me about £400 more than if I’d stayed with British gas so I would definitely not trust or recommend them ever!read more
