Shell Energy broadband deals currently come with big Amazon.co.uk vouchers

An impressive bonus on an already affordable provider

In the world of broadband deals, the lesser-known brands tend to be the ones who come out of nowhere with the bargain offers and cheap prices. The latest to do so is Shell Energy.

The energy provider turned ISP has spent the last couple of years offering some pretty all-round affordable offers on a range of broadband deals – both fibre and ADSL – but currently, it’s looking its best.

Offering Amazon.co.uk vouchers, with values up to £75 across all of its internet plans, Shell is looking like one of the best plans currently available. Before you even take into account the vouchers, this is cheaper than BT, Sky, Virgin and a number of other providers. read more

We’ve set out below the list of remedies set by the Ombudsman and the status of each. If there’s any outstanding matters left to address. I’ve confirmed when you’ll expect your next update and/or resolution.

Stay AWAY from this broadband they are a bunch of scums, I had to cancel my broad band because my home was renewed, the engineer was there with my neighbour, t7ried to contact them the day before stating that my landlord didn’t allow me to have it they said I would have to pay costs over this, the broad band was not installed, it did not go live and the engineer was there called them on the 19/02/202 which they put me o hold for over 50 mins, to cancel again because there was no open breach cable, they scums twists the things around saying that there would be a cost for £65 for missing the appointment the scums first told me they needed 48 hours before the engineer updated the report, then after they kept on saying I miss the appointment and I should be glad there would not be any extra costs, requested to speak to manager she did not put m through to him instead put me on hold for another 40 mins. They still send an email to make another appointment with the engineer , i told them I would be making a complain to OMBUDSMAN they say I could do it on they website tried to go in comes to appoint that it doesn’t let you further. YOUR BLOOD Sucker just want your own commission to pay of your salary, an email will be send to every were I can to put your **** company down. read more

I would give this company zero stars if i could.

I would give this company zero stars if i could. This company has hiked up my payments. They were great when they were First Utility. Even their cheapest offering is useless. My marketing preferences are by email but they keep trying to phone & message me. I complained to them by email & they agreed that they should contact me by email only, yet they carried on contacting me by phone even though i told them that i’m profoundly deaf. They passed all my details on to SMS even though i asked them not to. SMS have been hounding me stating that ”Shell Energy are upgrading to the next generation of meters & have arranged SMS to complete your installation”. How on earth can Shell Energy arrange for a meter to be fitted without consulting me? I have blocked all their calls. Shell are using bully boy tactics. I’m now moving to Octopus. Shell could not come anywhere near the prices that Octopus have offered me. Shell & SMS should hang their heads in shame for using bully boy tactics. My data is being shared even though i asked it not to be. They are also STILL trying to contact me by phone calls & text messages even though my marketing preferences are email. read more

METRO: Business briefing: Drivers feel empowered to switch to electric cars

SEVEN out of ten Britons plan to buy an electric car when they trade in their current vehicle, a survey shows.

Cheaper fuel costs and being seen to do more to clean up the planet are major motivating factors, found Shell Energy.

Another is the phasing out of petrol and diesel cars — after the government revealed sales of new ones will be ended in 2035, five years earlier than planned.

Colin Crooks, the chief executive of Shell Energy, said: ‘We support the need for the UK to move faster to meet climate targets and research shows there is public support for the earlier ban on traditional car sales.’ read more

Biggest battery in Europe set to land on British shores

By Sam Morgan | EURACTIV.com

Oil and gas giant Shell has plans for a 100-megawatt grid storage battery in the west of England. It is slated to be the biggest battery in Europe once it is completed later this year and will be crucial to the UK’s quest to remain the continent’s top wind power player.

The battery project in the county of Wiltshire aims to store renewable power in two 50MW cells and then sell it to consumers when demand and prices are high.

“Projects like this will be vital for balancing the UK’s electricity demand and supply as wind and solar power play bigger roles in powering our lives,” said Shell Energy Europe vice president David Wells. read more

Shell Energy launches EV charging bundle offering 2,000 miles free charging

Shell Energy is launching a new electric vehicle (EV) charging offer including an EV tariff and charger.

The offer includes a discounted home smart charger installed for £299, a saving of 14% compared to the retail price of £349.

The charger, provided by Shell-owned NewMotion, provides 7kW of power, charging a typical EV in five hours, Shell said. It will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with Shell Energy switching to 100% renewables last year as it re-branded from First Utility. read more

Dane lands offshore power grid deal for EDF-Shell’s Atlantic Shores

EDF Renewables North America and Shell New Energies have tapped Danish consulting firm COWI to devise the giant electrical transmission system design for the developers’ planned Atlantic Shores wind complex off the US state of New Jersey.

COWI said its work would encompass design, quantity and placement of onshore and offshore substations as well as the interarray cables connecting substations and individual turbines.

EDF Renewables NA subsequently formed a joint venture with Shell New Energies – Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind – to develop the lease area which they believe has potential to supply up to 2.5GW of wind power capacity to multiple markets along the eastern seaboard. read more

Google Shuts Down Its Moonshot Wind Energy Unit Makani

Royal Dutch Shell Plc, which invested in Makani, said it’s exploring options to use Makani’s technology.

Bloomberg News: Mark Bergen: February 18, 2020: 6:17 PM EST

(Bloomberg) — Alphabet Inc. is shutting down Makani, a subsidiary working on wind energy, as Google’s parent company pares back its experimental technology in favor of its main internet business.

Makani was formed in 2006 to make flying kites that would harness wind power and, eventually, replace more expensive turbines. Google acquired the startup in 2013, placing the group inside its X lab with other “moonshots” like self-driving cars. Makani later became its own Alphabet unit. But the initiative suffered personnel problems and waning support from its parent company, which has pulled back on several green energy projects. read more

Shell to Buy Power From U.K.’s Largest Battery Storage Plant

Shell Energy Europe Ltd. has agreed to trade power from what will be the U.K.’s largest battery storage project.

The Royal Dutch Shell Plc unit agreed to a multi-year deal to “optimize the use of renewable power” in the China-backed project, which is expected to come online by the end of this year. Batteries, Shell says, will play a key role in the energy transition as these will be able to store excess energy and feed it back to the grid when demand calls for it.

China Huaneng Group and China’s state-backed CNIC fund are backing the Minety power storage project, which consists of two 50-megawatt batteries in southwest England. “Projects like this will be vital for balancing the U.K.’s electricity demand and supply as wind and solar power play bigger roles in powering our lives,” according to David Wells, vice president of SEEL. read more

Just Energy took €5.2m loss before its Irish exit last year

February 17, 2020

The defunct Irish unit of US-Canadian firm Just Energy racked up a €5.2m loss in the year before it pulled the plug, newly filed accounts show.

Just Energy’s Irish operation had about 10,000 customers when the parent firm announced its exit from the Irish market last May.

It planned to sell non-core assets and focus on “higher margin North American operations”, the firm said then.

In October, it sold its UK unit to Shell Energy Retail.

The following month, Flogas agreed to acquire Just Energy’s customer accounts in Ireland for just €675,000. read more

Truely awful, avoid at all cost

Truely awful. Takes very long to answer phones every time, no matter what day of week. I bought a house and received estimated bills. Wind Approval sought for low-cost offshore wind PPAs in Massachusetts

February 12 (Renewables Now) – The electric distribution companies (EDCs) in Massachusetts are seeking the state Department of Public Utilities’ approval of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Mayflower Wind LLC for the output of an 804-MW offshore wind farm.

The contracts with Unitil, National Grid and Eversource Energy have terms of 20 years.

The project, developed by Shell New Energies and EDP Renewables, was the winner in Massachusetts’ second Request for Proposals (RfP) for offshore wind projects. The levelised price agreed for the wind farm’s output stands at USD 58.47 (EUR 53.6) per MWh in real 2019 dollars, according to a letter in support of the long-term power contracts by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources. The Mayflower wind park is projected to bring direct savings to ratepayers of USD 24/MWh in real 2019 dollars, on average, over the term of the power contracts. read more

Awful company

Awful company, thank god i wasn’t a signed up member!
Moved into a property supplied by Shell Energy, switched straight away, took meter reading and supplied to them on the 1st day.
Then they start sending text messages to say to call a number to pay, search of the number online shows it as a scamming number rated as ‘Dangerous’ on ‘Who Called Me’.
When you call the number they want all your personal details and bank details without even confirming anything to prove who they are and they know who is calling them, they ended up hanging up on me when I asked them to confirm some of my details even just my door number.
Go to the website, its just as bad trying to get some contact details, eventually had to fill out a form as even the online chat isn’t a chat, its automated.
Eventually get an email from them confirming the details, and I pay and send them confirmation via email, then I continue to get threatening messages about outstanding payment and debt collectors.
Awful company, I’m guessing staff members have increased their ratings on here, have a look at their ratings on some other sites. read more
